ERA4Health, a Horizon Europe partnership, has launched its first pilot call for multi-country clinical trials, ‘EffecTrial’ that will back comparative effectiveness trials to compare the effect of different drugs and other approved products in treating non communicable diseases. (such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and respiratory diseases).
The call has a budget of €18.7 million, with 30% co-funding from the European Commission.
ERA4Health aims to enhance collaboration between funding organizations in Europe to enable more transnational clinical trials. While such trials offer benefits like cost-sharing and faster patient recruitment, they are hindered by issues such as complex regulations, limited funding flexibility, and administrative challenges. ERA4Health is working to address these barriers.
The partnership is seeking new funding organizations, especially those interested in clinical research, and encourages them to apply before February 2025. ERA4Health will also hold an online information session about the call and share updates via its website and newsletter.
