WHO launches new clinical trials guidance – What do I need to know?

Date & Time     13 December 2024 at 14:00 - 15:00 CET
Location     Online

In September 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) published its groundbreaking guidance on best practices for clinical trials – establishing, for the first time, a global framework applicable to the design and conduct of all clinical trials, with insights relevant to observational studies as well. Access the guidance here.

Join WHO’s Chief Scientist, Jeremy Farrar as he presents this milestone in clinical research, followed by a detailed overview from WHO’s Research for Health Senior Advisor, Vasee Moorthy. This session will highlight key aspects of the guidance, including embedding research within health systems, fostering diverse, active clinical research networks, and prioritizing community interaction across the trial lifecycle.

Participants will learn how the guidance simplifies the often-complex clinical trial approval processes and promotes a risk-based, proportionate approach to trial design and data oversight. A Q&A session will follow, offering an opportunity for deeper engagement with WHO experts. The Global Health Network is a WHO collaborating Centre for research information sharing and capacity development.
